Most afternoons, this is where my family can be found. Digging about the seaweed and finding little treasures.
Seafans are my favorite.

Olivia loves to find the little rocks and shells.

Kyan is all about these funky sea crustations.

We have no idea what they are half the time, but joking about what they may be is part of the fun.

Anthony gets a kick out of finding the obscure items that have been thrown overboard.

But, we love nothing more than enjoying it with friends. May we always be blessed with visitors eager for some beachtime.

And just like that, she is our big Kindergartner.

Tucked away in her backpack were these petite lunches.

Made with love and craftiness for sure.

After seeing these on Wendy's blog about a year ago, I was hooked.
What a cute, not to mention memorable way to eat lunch.
And honestly it's not anymore work than a normal lunch packing which is fantastic.
Bento happy I am.
Despite my best efforts though, Olivia would much rather buy from the cafeteria.
Go figure.

...or as I love to call him, my Dad.

The man that I get all my craftiness from for sure.

It was nothing he ever pushed on me, it was always something I just saw him doing.

My first memories of him making things, were his stained glass workings.

Amazed by the array of colors, I always wanted to be out in the garage when he was creating things.

After slicing my thumb on a piece of glass, I lost interest and went back to my Barbie's.

And then there were lots of memories of him making gold and silver pieces.

I loved playing around with the ring sizer the most.

As I got older, he filled me in on birthstones and gems in general.

At that point the teenage years had set in and boys reigned higher on the priority list.

But now that I am older, I am picking his brain for all the little details.

Watching closely as he works.

Turning to him for helpful hints and even using some of his old tools.
Here he had just finished an itty bitty ring for Olivia.

The picture brings tears to my eyes, because it is full circle.

What he does for her, he used to do for me.

And what I spend my time making, she sees.

She will remember.

This all makes me very happy.

I love you Dad.

There is something so special about making custom orders.

My sister in law and family were just visiting for a week.

In between beachtime and Rockband, I made these little ones for her.

I had such fun sitting on the living room floor tossing around ideas with her.

She is taking these back to Dallas with her to be dangled upon her friends.

Enjoy girls. And the adventure in the studio continues.

Seriously, this room is so tiny, it's hard to get a good picture.

Hopefully you get the just.

After hours of wrestling this kraft paper, I finally covered all the walls.

As I was wrestling, all I could think was why in the world people used to wallpaper EVERYTHING?!?

All that goop and mess...eeks.

In an attempt to leave no damage to the existing (nasty) wallpaper, I first went the double sided sticky tape route.

After completing about half the room, the walls started coming down around me...literally.

You can imagine how pissed I was.

Then out came the staple gun in full force. It worked like the champ it is.

Then to finish it off a little I used a huge roll of vintage grey, velvet ribbon as a border.
Wah la....much better I think.
Now to bring in the goods and make this room functional.

"How do you guys feel about the wallpaper?"
This is what our sweet rental agent asked us as we were signing the lease papers for the new place.
Husband response.."Oh, our kids love it, but my wife isn't crazy about it."
You think.?.
I mean, we are at the beach and so the whole nautical theme should go right?
eeks, and they even were nice enough to leave the matching picture to go with the wallpaper.
How sweet.

So in a ditch effort to not remove the wallpaper (I've heard this is a heinous feat), I decided to cover it up.
Sort of 2009, wallpaperish, not have to paint it, cover up.
In my stash of things, I came across a HUGE roll of kraft paper that I had bought at Lowe's.
Original purpose for it was to use it to wrap gifts, but we'll see how it goes.
Anything is better than the current hopefully.
And if it's successful for $7.29 for the roll of paper + my time, I will be thrilled.

Transformation is for my at home studio for "me feel pretty" in a style reminiscent of the pictures below.

"Me feel pretty" is about to take flight.

Where finally all my hard work will move from this bookshelf, to a pretty little 10x10 spot at Seabee Days.

The excitement is overwhelming, in a fantastical way!

It's a small venue, but a perfect place to start.

Funny this morning as I was setting up my canopy that I was clearly the new kid on the block.

It would be fantastic to see some familiar faces.

For now I have to get spiffed up for Olivia's preschool graduation.

Amazing how time flies.

Dressing her in a cap and gown at age 4 is just surreal.

She is a smart little cookie though and I will for sure be the proud mom crying as they say her name.

So it was, back in April, I took an amazing workshop class with the sweetest Christine.

Her talent is beyond and I couldn't wait to make one of these beauties.

To say I was nervous to solder for the first time was an understatement, but I was thrilled to find how simple it was.

Not to mention calming, as I watched the metal flow.

So this is what my end product turned out to be.

For my Mom...

Seeing this picture always brings tears to my eyes and I knew there could be no better one to use for this project.

It was taken of my my and aunt (twins) when they were about 3.

My aunt has since passed, hence the wings.

My hope is that this brings you peace and joy Mom.

As much as it did me to make this treasure for you.

They are candy store goodies to me.

Without a doubt breakfast is my favorite meal of the day.

So much so, that I can eat it for dinner too.

Recently I had splurged at Costco and bought the big thing o' croissants.

This is a rarity because I find them delightful yet oh so bad for me.

But they won the battle and came home with me in order to make

Coconut croissant french toast.

BAD. Bad. bad.....but really so so delish.

If you crave coconut as much as I do, give these a whirl.

Cut croissants in half and set aside.

Then wisk 2 eggs, milk, cinnamon, and healthy splash of coconut flavoring together in a bowl.

dip croissants in batter and let the excess drip off completely.

Then cook just like normal french toast.
Top with butter and raspberry syrup (if you have it).
Enjoy.
These babies are pretty filling, so making less is really more with this breakfast treat.

Hope everyone had a happy Easter weekend.

When housebound with sick kiddos who are sleeping much more than normal, conquer those to do list projects with that extra time.

This chandelier has been at the top of my list for awhile and finally I got to it. yipee.

Renting houses always brings upon some decorating challenges for me.

The question of how can I make what they currently have up look better for us and our style?

Cut strips of muslin and wrap the heck out of that wrought iron and flair it up with a piece of vintage jewelry that I found for a dollar.

I'm liking how it turned out and am amped to start some more overdue to do's.

This is about as crafty as I get these days.

Randomly I flipped through our local paper and saw that Iliza Shlesinger

was doing stand up Friday night, 20 minutes from our house.

I loved her on Last Comic Standing and she more than delievered at our show.

My reality TV nerdism was totally satisfied tonight.

This whole meal planning thing that is.

I am really a craving eater so I couldn't narrow it down to a what night we eat what list.

But, this is my attempt at a trusty "I want to make dinner easier" list.

On tonight's menu....Chili and cornbread.

Not my kids favorite, but it's cold here and a hearty dinner sounds yummy to Mom and Dad.

We trump the whiny I want Mac and cheese cries tonight.

Recipe goes like this.

1lb ground beef

1 small tomato sauce can

1 regular sized can of diced tomato

1 can kidney beans

a couple splashes of beer

cinnamon

garlic pepper

cumin

1 pkg. of chili seasoning mix.

Brown meat with cinnamon, cumin and garlic pepper.

Just keep shakin' it on until it makes a nice covering over the meat.

When browned add to a pot with all the other goodies.

warm up.

Serve on white rice

top with a dollop of sour cream and lots of sharp cheddar.

I like a little dill pickle too.

Cheers to a warm Academy awards night.

oh don't forget the cornbread with honey butter.

It's so exhilarating and the sense of accomplishment you feel after reaching the top is indescribable.

Holiday cheer

Honestly I am not a huge fan of cold weather, but I find snowflakes just beautiful.

Glittery ones at that.

Found these foam ones 6 for a dollar and had to spruce them up.

Using MS white gold glitter I went to town.

I still shake my head looking at these glittered up goodies because it's uncanny how much it looks like glass glitter.
and I love me some glass glitter.
So I started glittering everything in sight.
The huge clam shell glitzd up has me all giddy.
Ideas are flowing for Christmas present ideas.

Not to be forgotten, Thanksgiving was wonderful.
But instead of pumpkin pie, I was ready for some candy cane cookies.

I laugh looking at this picture because we look so put together.

We won 50 dollars in gift cards and I busted the heel off of these shoes from dancing like the super nerds we are.

And glitter covered corks that will be poked with a bamboo skewer and then topped with the squadron symbol printed out on transparancies.
This is a first at table settings for me, but I think it will go over well.
Especially due to the fact that everyone will be seeing it with beer goggles on.
And because everything is better with candy, it will be sprinkled all over the table to enjoy.

The problem: I love the short fushia dress and I have killer shoes to match, but I think its more cocktaily than formal. We are living in CA where the weather has been abnormally warm even for here. So maybe I could pull off the short dress?

Or the lovely plum and violet colored one? How the top ties and is padded a bit in the boobage area, is a big plus. This mom of two wee ones needs all the help she can get. But for shoes and jewelry? What the heck color do I wear with it?

Finding out that my old favorite Japanese dollar store is now alive and kicking in the US. The closest one is way up north from me, but it's just another reason I need to make it to the Bay area asap. Back in my flight attendant days, this was always my first stop on a layover. I would spend hours ewwing and ahhing the aisles. Just the thought of reliving this past time soon has me all giddy.

When I awake in the morning I will be overwhelmed
with the thought that it is the last 24 hours we have as just three.
What a whirlwind of 7 months we have had.
Road trips, potty training, tap classes, days crafting in our PJ's,
picnics for dinner, and all the in between.
It was not always easy, but I would not have rather
shared this time away from Daddy with anyone else that you two.
My constant companions.
You always knew that a hug would everything better
and it did.

I have this really bad habit of letting things pile up way too high on my desk.
The good part of that, is when I finally go through it all I find little papers of goodness.
Like the one on top of Olivia writing out Mom on her own and making good use of old stickers of mine.
Or our hand drawn picture by the artist Chuck E Cheese himself from Kyan's birthday.
Or finally thumbing through Salvage sisters to find this page that totally rings true for me.

Feeling Halloweeny around the house despite the beautiful weather outside.
and loving those MM vinyl wall letters I found on super clearance at Target last year.

and working on a few new glittery decorations as well.
Learning by trial and error with this glittering business too.
Spray adhesive is a no no for glitter application.
It gets too spiderwebby and goopy.
Perhaps if I had consulted with Martha Stewart first, I could have saved myself the annoyance.

I feel a bit ADD these days.
The whole "being able to count on 2 hands the days before A's big return" is mind boggling.
Swirling thoughts and worries consume me.
and in turn, trickle into the kids behavior as well.

The fact that I really need to make the switch to waterproof mascara because even though Halloween is fast approaching, raccoon eyes are so not me.
Nervous eating is a super bad habit.
I made sugar pumpkin cookies yesterday and 7 layer bars today.
If I keep this up, I may not be able to zip my Welcome home dress.
and the fear of the unknown.
How are the kids going to react to finally seeing Daddy again?
How do little brains even begin to comprehend where the heck he has been?
My hope is that the lost/apart time dissipates as soon as we embrace.
What does it feel like to get an intimate kiss?
Is it just like the whole bicycle theory, that you never forget?
and by nature, we have formed into a 3 ring circus and is a 4th member going to cramp that a little?
Once the euphoric stage wears off from the first seeing each other bit, how is it going to be?
readjusting all the way around.
No more every Saturday doughnut, garage sale, Lakeshore Learning, beach days.
no more cereal boxes in bed while Mommy sleeps a few extra minutes.
Or having breakfast for dinner twice a week.
But loads of love and needed support.
My best friend will be back and I foresee many wine filled, eating out of the ice cream container and talking till the wee hours nights ahead of us.

His smell.

I have missed him immensely and am so thankful he is coming home to us safe and sound.
Complete as a family again.
As it should be.

I briefly mentioned Angels a few weeks back,but realized I never posted the pictures.

This place makes me want a house of my own so badly.
Full of rows upon rows of old house salvage pieces.
good junk I would call it.
Funky chipped doors, brightly colored claw tubs, any kind of light fixture you could dream of and loads more.
The best part.
Its all negotiable.
Nothing is marked with a price, you just gather your goods and bring them to the front.
He tells you one price.
Then cut it in half and you have yourself a deal.
Despite the fact that I found a flea on my pantleg on the way out, I would journey back sometime.
My goal...to talk him into selling me one of those old locker basket cases as seen in picture 2.
I am afraid lockers are the new typewriters here at the Ramirez household.

My love for Home depot's returned paint section is immense.
The majority of the time this is where I go to find paint.
How can you go wrong for 5 bucks for the gallon?
I even learned of a dirty little trick from my father in law about buying the paint in the color you want.
Then returning it.
Then go back and get it out of the return pile the next day.
I have yet to do this because it's just too much work, but pretty cleaver.
Today I scored the perfect color to paint those 70's ish brown legs on my table.
The looked so refreshed and purty now.

My addiction to Craigslist led me to this bad boy too.
It's huge and chipped and meant to be in my house.
It will not stay on those scales but just propped it up for a picture on them.
Angels Antiques in Carpenteria is my new favorite shop.
Without a fraction of a doubt.
Its thrifter's paradise if you will.
(I will post pictures of it later. Prepare to freak)

Got these jars there too.
Once dry, they are going to look mighty fine in my "candy shop"

attack the paper.
So after I posted last night, I brought my paper into the living room drawer by drawer and was ruthless.
If I gave it a second thought it was gone.
By the end of the night I went from these to...

These 2 little baskets.
One for scraps and the other for big sheets.
and that is all the room I am allowing myself.
Bonus with this method, I can see and therefore use what I have.
No more being overwhelmed by those drawers.

and now to tackle this...

I took Sarah's advice and cleared that puppy out.
whew, I truly feel lighter already.

As I move forward I go with these thoughts...
again, only keep what you love.
I need to see it to use it.
I want it to feel like a candy store.
be organized yet functional.
By weeding out the bad/old , I am loving rediscovering what I gravitate towards.

Thanks you guys for the spot on advice.
Self motivation through this blog is my goal.
That way I stick to it and start creating again.
I miss it.
On one last note, while on the phone today to a non-scrapbooky friend, I tell her of my adventure.
She laughs and said " You are doing it again? Did you ever finish before?"

After nearly 2000 adventurous miles under our 3 belts, we are home.
Exhausted.
But at peace.
That long in the car produces a many a thoughts, ideas, concerns, joys, goals, longings.
You name it.
Just unwinding now and promise to be back with tons of photos and many of details.

Already thinking this is something I am going to make my next project.
If we ever leave the house again due to the Olympics.
Having the kids cheering on Team USA with me is fantastic.
Swimming and synchronized diving is the all around favorite at our house.
With all our hooting and hollering I'm sure the retired neighbors think we have lost it.
ehhh, it's once every four years right.
There is alot to be excited about.

My email is my hemorrhoid of sorts to keep in contact with my husband over these 7 months.
Being computer less for nearly 2 weeks is going to be rough.
But in a romantical way, writing letters like people used to is going to a nice change of pace.

So on my ongoing quest to make the best of things while daddy is away, I extended our Colorado trip.
We are no longer going the airport route, we are hittin' the road.
Route 66 style.
See Kyan is a HUGE Cars fan.
I mean everywhere we go, he has something Lightening McQueen in hand.
He pretends to be Lightening and always wants me to play Sally.
So what would Sally do to make Lightening happy?
Take him for a nights stay at the Cozy Cone!!!

This is the info I found that sealed the deal for me...

The Cozy Cone Motel's design is based on the two Wigwam Motels along Rt. 66; in Holbrook Arizona and Rialto, California. These were once two out of seven motels, with individual cabins shaped like tepees. Another motel from the chain survives in Cave City, KY. There is truly something unique about returning home after a vacation.
Everything is clean.
It almost looks fresh to the eyes.
I love that.

We had a more than amazing time in Seattle and Harrison, Idaho.
There is so much I must jot down before I forget those little but oh so special memories.
But as habit has it, garage sales and our trusty donut shop are calling my name.

After the search for the camera charger is over, I will be back with more.
I only took about 500 pictures so they will definitely follow as well.

Loving to be pregnant.
so anxious to meet our first child.

and then with a flash she was here and it was her first birthday.
She loved to dance and sing.
eat sand.
She was already a Daddy's girl.

and then entered this 2 year old girl.
No longer a baby, but now a shining toddler.
And she never was terrible in her two's.
She was a pleaser, a big sister and had a best friend Megan.

and before we knew it, she was celebrating her 3rd birthday.

So independent now.
Full of life.
Entered the princess stage.

Today was Olivia's pre Preschool graduation.
She wore a pastel yellow dress that she knows is my favorite.
She looked all grown up.
She walked proud.
She showed through her smile that she wished her daddy was there.

She is little miss social.
She plays with her friends and then runs and gives me updates all this time.

This little guy is a 2 dollar magic wand.

Spring cleaning is in full force even though I think its technically summer, but you get the just.
So I am once again purging unloved household items.
I want to be surrounded only by things that bring my joy.
And that means finally bringing up goodies found and then left in the garage for later use.
Jamie, I know you have SEEN this mess.

I did run into a problem though and for all of you thrifters, these is a mystery solved.
Doesn't it bug you when the sifters/pricemarkers at the thrift store mark your item with a Sharpie and then it runs on you "find"?
errrr, this bugs me.
Not any more though.

As long as it's run on a slick surface, all you have to do is rub a dry erase marker over the area and WA LA.
the sharpie comes right off.
fantastic.

It does not get much better than this.
Back to the islands = heaven.

went to a beautiful wedding.
Drank way to much coconut rum.
ate banana pancakes.

came home.
did Disney for 2 days.
Was visited by 3 of my best flight attendant friends for the past 2 weeks.
Stayed up way to late.
Just like old times.

Talked to A thanks to a Port call.
What I would give for reach through the phone technology.

Freaked over the finales of this and this.
and due to Meredith and Derek's house O' candles, we roadtriped to McDreamys real life house.
and saw his wife outside.
and Tori and Dean at the Crib.
and Latoya Jackson crusin' Rodeo drive.
Star studded Memorial day weekend for sure.

Found a new favorite yogurt place.
got great deals at Macy's sale.
whew.

and now the house is dirty and quiet.
Olivia's got a cold too.
A day in PJ's is just what the doctor ordered.

This night owl needs to transform into an early bird.

Leaving on a jet plane back to the islands in the morning.

Taking the kids to Maui for the week.

Getting back where our hearts are is going to be a special treat to say the least.

Going on a papaya only diet too.

my spoon and lime are ready.

These times as a single mom of sorts is rough, but so rewarding at the same time.

Its never a dull moment that's for sure.

Above is the adrenaline rushed, worn out mama. That was the hot new shirt I bought to wear to the big estate sale.

It was beyond words.

For real. All I can spat out still is Holy shit and its been a couple days.

I went Friday and Saturday.

Bought the coolest piece ever!! (sorry for no picture yet, I have to put it back together first)Two massive trikes for the kids, a special surprise for my man, and met Pam.

and I swear if the footage is used and I am seen on this show, I am gonna be hysterical. I was geeking out big time over my purchase.

wave hello.
This is a real time photo of my husband flying one of the planes on the left or right point.
Not bragging, it's just surreal.
I look at this photo and just shake my head in disbelief.
The fact that he is living on this massive piece of metal in the middle of the sea is crazy.
How does one's mind really wrap itself around this concept?
Very rarely do I explore the Internet to find out what he is "really" up to, but tonight I miss him and it made me feel closer.
and very proud.
He is doing what he loves, but just having to miss us in the meantime.
Plain and simple.

When the house is quiet and I am ready to sleep and he is not here, I get sad.
and I sleep with the tv on.
and sometimes I let the kids bring the cereal box into my bed so I can rest a few more minutes and cuddle with them.
I am human.

and to think I have been doing this 'Single Mom' thing for 42 days?!?
My respect for women who do this on a daily basis is beyond words.
But I prove a lot to myself over this time apart.
I will be a better woman when he returns and that is something to pat myself on the back for.
That October day can not get here fast enough.

redone and like it much better.

Love doing these because there are no rules.
and I mess up alot and am challenged to cover things up creatively.

not sure why the glitter came into place with this one , but I just ran with it.
and the covering up all but a few words technique, I had to try after seeing Sara do it.
hope to do some more later.

Since leaving home back in March to go on a Navy endorsed "fun" cruise , Anthony has been so awesome about making video clips and sending them to us.
This one I just had to share because it made me scream out loud.
This man is like a chia pet with beautiful hair.
Heck his call sign is Ponch for heaven sake's.

and as it was getting shaved, the kids could not stop giggling about it.
It makes us all feel closer to him seeing and hearing him like this though.
I just wish I could rub my hands on it.
Fresh shaved hair is so rabbit soft.

Looking good honey, but please don't forget the shampoo.

prefacing a call with "I know I am crazy but.." is a great start to a day.

See it started with this cabinet.
holy sh!t right?!?
I know.
So in my night owlness, I stumbled upon an ad for a Hollywood estate sale that had this beauty for sale.
Since forever I have wanted one of these.
But I now longer have a ginormous car to hold it, so I need to borrow a truck.
Of course I call my good ole pal Jamie for help.
she laughs at me, but agrees with the pick up situation and I'm off to Hollywood.

and I show up to this.
A tv station filming this estate sale?!?
What was I thinking coming here?!?
Clearly one tract mind to the cabinet.
So I give the kids a "This place is REAL fancy, don't touch anything briefing" and we go on in.
I immediately ask were the piece is and head upstairs.
To my dismay and frugal bones, the cabinet was priced too high.
I contemplated it for a good 15 minutes, and before leaving, ask the head lady if I can call Sunday and see if its still there.
Maybe then she will sway on the price.
Tomorrow is judgement day.
Wish me luck.

So while in La, do as the LA people do.
It was a beautiful sunny day, so we walked and ate and played.
My little best friends are such troopers.

They even Paparazzied it with Mommy in front of the IVy.
and I snuck this shot in behind a few real paparazzi guys.
Look past the gelled out comb due and the girl with her head down is somebody famous I guess.
People were shooting pictures of her like crazy.

As I am taking pictures, Olivia nudges me and says " Are we gonna go eat in there or what Mom?"
yeah, and pay 30 bucks for a kids meal.
hell no.
Off to Mc Donald's we went and back home.
So goes our adventures.

I am sad to be leaving the SIS family, but I will continue to be crafty.

I tapped my heels together 3 times and it got me no where.
I was trying to get myself here today.

To be singing and swaying to Amanda's (my girl in the black shirt above)"baby's daddy" performing on the big stage.
Plumeria scent filling the air.
feeling the warm ocean breeze.
drink in hand.
and cuddled up to my own personal baby's daddy.

Second best.
Getting to hear my favorite song off of JJ's new album via live cell phone Kokua Fest call.
eeks.
It gave me goosebumps.
you took me there for the 20 seconds A, thanks.
Not the real thing like last year, but it'll do.
